National Day of Action: April 26!

On Tuesday, April 26, homelessness and housing advocates are preparing an unprecedented Congressional advocacy push around the federal budget. Please call your Representative and both Senators on that day to request increased funding for homelessness and housing! More specifically, you can ask them to join the “Dear Colleague” letter supporting $3.6 billion for homeless assistance grants. The Congressional switchboard is (202) 225-3121.

On March 28, the Biden administration requested a $6.2 billion increase to the nation’s Housing and Urban Development budget. This funding is desperately needed for the 580,000 Americans experiencing homelessness on any given night, including right here in Maine. Proposed increases include an 11% boost to homeless assistance grants and the expansion of rental vouchers to 200,000 more households.

Homelessness is a crisis we can no longer ignore. There is a critical need for shelter funding and rental assistance, especially as rising rents push more people  including senior citizens and families with children out of their homes and onto the streets.

Thank you for coming together with us to advocate for our neighbors. Together we can make their voices and needs heard!
