Discrimination Against Homelessness Pilot Project

Have you or someone you know experienced discrimination based on your housing status?

Last year, Homeless Voices for Justice successfully advocated for the passage of the Discrimination Against Homelessness Pilot Project, which directs the Maine Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to collect complaints of discrimination based on housing status. This includes complaints that a person was turned down for a job or housing or were excluded from a place of public accommodation because they are or were perceived to be experiencing homelessness. The goal of this project is to prove that legal protections are needed for people experiencing homelessness in Maine.

We know voucher and housing status discrimination happens, but we also know that it often goes unreported. Support this Pilot Project by sharing this information with your networks and encouraging people you know who may have experienced this discrimination to report it to the MHRC. Learn more at
