Group protests Portland DHHS office relocation

PORTLAND — They call themselves “homeless voices for justice,” and they were out in force Wednesday in front of the DHHS offices in Portland. The group was protesting a plan to move the offices, and the services DHHS provides to South Portland. Homeless advocates say that will create a hardship for people already going through a tough time.

They say it is time consuming and costly to take a bus. The group also says it removes them from centralized services like shelters and soup kitchens in the area.

The group plans to protest once a month, hoping to urge Governor LePage to keep the DHHS offices in downtown Portland.
