Preble Street statement on ICE actions

Keeping vulnerable people safe is core to the Preble Street mission. And right now, many of our community members, rightfully so, do not feel safe. Increased presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, as part of the dehumanizingly named ‘Operation Catch of the Day,’ is creating constant fear and anxiety for so many of our neighbors.

Targeting people based on their skin color or country of birth — even those who are lawfully in the U.S. and pursuing legal immigration pathways — creates fear and chaos. These types of actions harm each and every one of us.

We stand today with all of the people in our community who are sheltering in place or who will go to bed tonight afraid for their friends, family members, colleagues, or themselves. Like so many of you, we are working in whatever way we can to make sure our neighbors are able to be safe, remain with their families, and be treated with dignity and compassion.
