Can I change or cancel my monthly gift at any time?
Yes. You can change or cancel your monthly gift anytime — no fees, no hassle. You’re in full control.
Call our office at (207) 775-0026 or use our contact form to let us know of your wishes. A member of our fundraising team will usually respond within 48 hours (excluding holidays and weekends). You will receive an email confirmation as soon as your monthly gift is paused or cancelled.
When will my gift be charged each month?
Your gift will be charged on the same day each month as your first donation. (For example, a gift set up on the 10th will process on the 10th of every month.)
Is my data secure?
Absolutely. Donations are processed through Blackbaud, a trusted nonprofit payment platform, with full encryption and PCI compliance.
Is my donation tax-deductible? Will I get a receipt?
Preble Street is a 501(c)(3) organization, and gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. You will receive a receipt each January detailing your giving during the previous calendar year.
Where does my donation go?
When you give, you make the biggest difference where it’s needed most: you’re serving hot meals, opening safe beds, keeping veterans housed, and helping teens build independent futures.
Can I donate in honor of someone else?
Yes! Simply click the check the “dedicate to someone special” link on the donation form and you’ll have the option to share details or send a notification card.
What if my card expires or I get a new one?
No problem. You can update your payment method anytime through the secure Update My Gift form or by calling us at (207) 775-0026.
When you update your card using our update form, your new card will be charged on the day you make the update.
What is the best way to make my monthly donation?
Monthly gifts given through direct debit from your bank account reduces transaction costs, so more of your donation goes directly to helping our neighbors in need.
Who was Joe?
Joe Kreisler founded Preble Street in 1975. A professor at the University of Southern Maine School of Social Work, Joe started the agency as a real-world training ground for students and a place for Portland’s most vulnerable residents to get help meeting their needs and advocating for change.

Joe dedicated his life to addressing the needs of disenfranchised people and was the embodiment of the agency’s mission, philosophy, spirit, and dedication to meeting everyone as an equal human being.
